Voted NO for 2-1 funding!

Motion for funding has failed. That means if the SB follows through with their "threat", Appy will be in P.V. and Pound will be in Kelly starting in August 2011. I also think that the Chairwoman has just had some of the people escorts out of the room.

Technically voted no for all funding, not just against for a 2-in-1 school.
There were three other substiture motions on the table that also failed.

There was no mention of St. Paul in the papers today, but that could happen.

Cant recall what the SB proposal was if they had to merge existing schools.

One thing it means, is that if they do decide to borrow money to either refurbish some existing schools, or build 3 new schools, Wise Co. just lost about 8 million dollars in interest.

Next we wait and see if the School Board follows through with their plan to merge existing schools since funding for consolidation wasn't provided. This would close Pound and Appalachia (not sure about Coeburn or St. Paul's status in this plan).
The county doesn't have enough money to operate 6 high schools - the budget was barely balanced this year and it will just get more difficult to do in coming years.

Tonight was a major victory for everyone in this county except the citizens of Wise. They lost two schools and the town's own supervisors voted down a subsitute motion to build a new high school for the town of Wise. Monday will be interesting, Perry says close, CEASE says court.
